Ribbon cutting to be held Thursday morning for Heavy Haul Road
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Thursday, Dec. 9, in Jeffersonville to celebrate the opening of the final leg of the Heavy Haul Transportation Corridor.
Construction began in late 2019 to provide a continuous route for heavy haul vehicles between River Ridge Commerce Center and the Port of Indiana at Jeffersonville. The $14.5 million, two-lane roadway is designed to withstand vehicle weights of up to 134,000 pounds.
Members of the community and media are invited to join the Indiana Department of Transportation, along with the City of Jeffersonville, Clark County, River Ridge Development Authority, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the Ports of Indiana, United Consulting, and MAC Construction at the event.
“The Ports of Indiana is thrilled for the new Heavy Haul Road to open,” said Andrea Hermer, Ports of Indiana chief operating officer. “The road not only provides direct access from the new East End Crossing bridge right to our Port facilities, but it also connects the Ports of Indiana – Jeffersonville to the River Ridge Commerce Center, allowing new freight opportunities for truck and river/barge shipments."
The ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the new bridge over Lentzier Creek. Parking will be available at the south end of the bridge.
